Non-stick cooking spray
Cobbler:
3 cups water
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 2/3 cups Martha White Self-Rising Flour
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup milk
2 (5 oz.) packages dried apples, or about 4 cups
Topping:
1 tablespoon milk
2 tablespoons sugar
Instructions
Heat oven to 350°F. Spray a 13 x 9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish with no-stick cooking spray.
Combine water and 1 1/2 cups sugar in a medium saucepan. Heat over medium heat until sugar dissolves, stirring frequently. Remove from heat; add lemon juice.
Place flour in a large bowl. Cut in butter with a pastry blender or fork until crumbs are about the size of small peas. Add 1/2 cup milk. Stir with a fork just until the mixture pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
Knead dough on a floured surface just until smooth. Roll out the dough to form a 12-inch square. Cut the dough into 8 strips. Place 3 strips lengthwise in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle apples evenly over the dough. Place the remaining strips of dough lengthwise over the apples.
Pour sugar syrup carefully between strips of dough. Brush dough with 1 tablespoon milk. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons sugar.
Bake for 40 to 50 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm or cold.
