Martha White®/Lodge Cast Iron® National Cornbread Cook-Off 2003 Official Rules

  1. The Martha White®/Lodge Cast Iron® National Cornbread Cook-Off 2003 seeks original MAIN DISH recipes prepared with at least one cup Martha White® Corn Meal or one package Martha White® Cornbread Mix. All recipes must be cooked in Lodge Cast Iron® cookware.
  2. Contest is open to all U.S. residents (18 years or older), except food professionals, such as chefs, food writers or food home economists who create recipes for pay. Employees of International Multifoods Corporation ("Martha White"), 110 Cheshire Lane, Minnetonka, MN 55305; or Lodge Manufacturing Company, 204 East Fifth Street, South Pittsburg, TN 37380; or Brown Stove Works, Inc., 1422 Carolina Avenue, Cleveland, TN 37311 ("The Sponsors"), their affiliates, advertising and publicity agencies and their immediate families living within the same household are ineligible to enter or win.
  3. Mail-in entries must be postmarked by February 28, 2003 and received by March 7, 2003. On-line entries must be received by midnight Central Standard Time on February 28, 2003. Martha White and Lodge Manufacturing Company are not responsible for lost, late or misdirected mail. In the event of a dispute as to who submitted an e-mail entry, the entry will be deemed submitted by the holder of the e-mail account.

  4. The Sponsors and their agencies, officers, directors, agents and employees are not responsible for and shall not be liable for: (1) garbled, illegible, incomplete, damaged, misdirected, late, lost or failed electronic or mailed entries; (2) telephone, electronic, hardware or software program, network, internet or computer malfunctions, failures or difficulties of any kind including any injury or damage to entrant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from participating in or downloading any materials in the Contest; (3) errors or delays in transmission; (4) any condition caused by events beyond the control of the Sponsors which may cause the contest to be disrupted or corrupted; (5) any losses or damage of any kind caused by the prize or resulting from acceptance or use of the prize or from participation in the contest. Sponsors reserve the right in their sole discretion to cancel, terminate or suspend this contest should virus, bugs, unauthorized human intervention, systems malfunctions, failure, difficulties or other causes beyond the control of the Sponsors and their agencies corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness or proper play of conduct of the Contest.
  5. Enter as often as you wish, but only one entry may qualify as a winner. Each entry must be mailed in a separate envelope or submitted by separate e-mail message and must include:

    Your recipe legibly written, printed or typewritten on a sheet of 8 1/2 x 11-inch paper with your complete name, mailing or street address, city, state, zip code, and daytime phone number.

    Each recipe must include U.S. standard measurements, complete preparation instructions, cooking times and temperatures, number of servings, size of pans and any special utensils or cookware.

  6. By entering the contest, contestants attest that, to the best of their knowledge, recipes are original and unpublished. Contestants agree that their recipes will not be returned and become the property of the Sponsors, who reserve the right to edit, adapt, copyright, publish and use any or all of the recipes, including publishing on the Internet, without additional compensation. Contestant agrees to execute any documents requested by the Sponsor(s) to vest ownership of such rights in the Sponsor(s).
  7. By participating, finalists consent to the use of their name, recipe, photograph and/or likeness in advertising, publicity and Internet promotion by the Sponsors and their nominees without additional payment/compensation, unless prohibited by law.
  8. Ten finalists, chosen by an independent judging panel, will be notified by phone call or e-mail on or about March 28, 2003. One of the finalists will be chosen by an independent judging panel from the winning entries in the 2002 Martha White Cornbread Challenges held at state and local fairs. Only one finalist per entry may compete at the Cook-Off on April 26, 2003; no teams or groups will be permitted. All finalists must participate in the National Cornbread Cook-Off in South Pittsburg, Tenn., April 26, 2003 to be eligible to win a prize. All groceries and kitchen equipment, except a stove, needed by the finalists for recipe preparation at the festival are the responsibility of the finalists. Each finalist will be responsible for their own travel and lodging arrangements, but will receive a $500 allowance to help cover expenses.
  9. The finalists agree to hold harmless the Sponsors, their related companies and agencies, their officers, directors, agents and employees from any liability arising out of participation in the contest and award or use of prizes.
  10. Prizes:

    First Prize -- $3,000 cash and a 30-inch FiveStar® stainless steel gas range (a $2,500 value) from Brown Stove Works, Inc., of Cleveland, Tenn., and special gifts from Lodge Cast Iron® and Martha White®. (Approximate retail value of $50)

    Second Prize -- $500 cash and special gifts from Lodge Cast Iron® and Martha White®. (Approximate retail value of $50)

    Third Prize -- $300 cash and special gifts from Lodge Cast Iron® and Martha White®. (Approximate retail value of $50)

    Seven Honorable Mention Prizes of $100 cash and special gifts from Lodge Cast Iron® and Martha White®. (Approximate retail value of $50)

  11. Contest will be judged by an independent panel of judges on the following criteria: taste, creativity, appetizing appearance, ease of preparation and appropriate use of the products.
  12. If the finalist is unable to participate in the Cook-Off in South Pittsburg, Tenn., on April 26, 2003, the prize will be forfeited and an alternate finalist may be selected. No substitution for prizes nor are prizes transferable.
  13. All prizes will be awarded on April 26, 2003. Contest void where prohibited by law. All federal, state and local laws apply. Taxes are the sole responsibility of the Winners. By entering, participants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsors and independent panel of judges, which shall be final in all matters pertaining to the contest.
  14. Finalists will be required to sign a travel/liability and publicity release within 14 days of notification. In the event of non-compliance with these requirements, the opportunity to compete will be forfeited and an alternate finalist may be selected.
